Is the top really cropped — how short is it?
The top hits at or just above the natural waist with an elastic hem. It's a relaxed crop, not a bare-midriff crop. Most wearers get a small sliver of skin if they raise their arms; size up or tuck the hem slightly higher for full coverage.
Does the drawstring actually adjust the fit?
Yes — the waistband has both elastic and a functional drawstring. You can pull it tighter for a snatched waist or leave it relaxed for a paperbag look.
Can I wear the pieces separately?
Absolutely. The collared top works with jeans, denim shorts, or a skirt. The wide-leg pants pair beautifully with a plain white tee or bodysuit.
